When Heroes from Heaven: Battleground Earth earned the Best Feature Screenplay award at the Greece International Film Festival in 2025, it was one of the first major international honors for Dr. Scott Glenn’s faith-based action epic — a recognition that helped launch the screenplay onto a global festival circuit that would eventually span every inhabited continent. Now, Greece has called again — but this time with a different and profoundly meaningful invitation.

Dr. Scott Glenn has been asked to serve as a judge at the Greek International Film Festival in 2026.

It is a milestone that marks a new chapter — not just for Dr. Glenn personally, but for the entire Heroes from Heaven project. When a festival that once recognized your work invites you back to help recognize the work of others, it signals something important: you are no longer simply a voice seeking to be heard. You have become a voice the industry trusts to listen.

What It Means to Be on the Jury

Judging panels at Greek international film festivals are composed of distinguished international and local industry professionals — directors, producers, critics, and executives — whose collective expertise shapes which films and screenwriters receive the recognition that can change the trajectory of a career. Notable figures on recent Greek festival juries have included executives from Sundance, representatives from Film Independent, international Emmy jurors, and members of the prestigious FIPRESCI critics’ federation — one of the most respected bodies in international film criticism.

These panels evaluate films across multiple program sections, including feature films, documentaries, and youth selections, bringing a range of expertise and perspective to every submission they consider. To be invited into this company is to be recognized as a peer by the international film industry — not simply as a participant in the festival circuit, but as someone whose judgment and experience are valued enough to help shape its outcomes.

For Dr. Glenn, whose academic career as an Assistant Professor of Business at Goldey-Beacom College has always been paired with a deep commitment to storytelling, faith, and human connection, the invitation to serve as a juror is a natural extension of values he has brought to both roles. Teaching, after all, is an act of discernment — of identifying potential, honoring craft, and helping others find their path forward. The jury room is not so different.

The Journey That Brought Him Here

Dr. Scott Glenn’s path from novelist to award-winning screenwriter to international jury member is one of the more remarkable stories in contemporary independent faith cinema. It began with a book signing in San Antonio, Texas — where a chance encounter on a film set led to a connection with a Hollywood casting director and a realization that the story he had written in his 2016 novel Heroes from Heaven belonged on the big screen as much as it belonged on the page.

From that beginning, Dr. Glenn co-wrote the screenplay with professional screenwriter Geoffrey D. Calhoun — and the result has since been recognized at more than 30 international festivals and screenwriting competitions spanning every inhabited continent on Earth. The awards have come from Cannes, Rome, Madrid, London, Oxford, Athens, Buenos Aires, Kigali, Phnom Penh, Stockholm, Milan, New York, Dallas, Chicago, and beyond. The screenplay has won outright in categories including Best Feature Screenplay, Best Action Screenplay, Best Thriller Screenplay, Best Original Screenplay, Best Drama Script, Best First Time Screenplay, and Outstanding Achievement in Feature Script. It has been an Official Selection at events ranging from the New York Film Festival to the All African Independent Film Festival in Rwanda.

Each recognition has added to the credibility of the project — and to the credibility of Dr. Glenn as a voice within the international film community. The invitation to serve as a judge at the Greek International Film Festival in 2026 is the clearest expression yet of that earned credibility.

Greece and Heroes from Heaven

The relationship between Heroes from Heaven and Greece is one of the most meaningful threads in the project’s international story. The Greece International Film Festival was one of the first major platforms to recognize the screenplay’s potential, awarding it Best Feature Screenplay at the 8th annual edition in 2025 — a recognition that came early in the festival journey and helped set the tone for everything that followed.

To return to Greece — not as a submitter, but as a judge — is to complete a circle that speaks to the project’s growing stature in the global film community. Greece, with its ancient tradition of storytelling and its deep connection to the themes of heroism, sacrifice, and divine intervention that run through Heroes from Heaven, is a fitting place for Dr. Glenn to take on this new role.

What Comes Next

As Dr. Glenn prepares to serve on the jury of the Greek International Film Festival in 2026, the project he created continues to build momentum toward production. Heroes from Heaven: Battleground Earth remains in development and is actively seeking the production and distribution partners who will bring this story — one that has already moved audiences and juries on every inhabited continent — to the screen.

The screenplay is complete. The novel is written. More than 30 international festivals have already recognized its quality. And now, one of those festivals has invited its author to help recognize the quality of others.

The next chapter of Heroes from Heaven is being written — and the world is paying attention.
