There is a reason human beings have told stories since the beginning of recorded history. Around fires, in temples, on cave walls, in the great libraries of Alexandria and Baghdad, on the stages of ancient Athens, and now on screens that fit in the palm of a hand, the story has always been the vessel through which humanity makes sense of itself. Through story we process grief and celebrate joy. We explore moral complexity without risking real consequence. We walk in the skin of someone whose life we will never live and return from that experience changed. We find, in the lives of characters who do not exist, truths about our own lives that we could not have articulated on our own.

Writing is not simply a craft. It is, at its most essential, an act of service, to the reader, to the culture, and to something larger than either. The greatest works of literature and cinema have always understood this. They have always known that a story worthy of being told is a story that leaves the world slightly different than it found it.

Heroes from Heaven: Battleground Earth was built on that understanding from its very first page.

The Tradition Dr. Scott Glenn Writes Within

When Dr. Scott Glenn sat down to write the novel that would eventually become Heroes from Heaven: Battleground Earth, he was participating in one of the oldest and most important traditions in human artistic expression — the faith narrative. Long before cinema existed, long before the novel was a recognized literary form, storytellers were using narrative to explore the relationship between humanity and the divine. The Book of Job is a story about suffering and faith. The Odyssey is a story about a man trying to find his way home through a world shaped by forces beyond his control. Dante’s Divine Comedy is a journey through darkness toward light that has guided readers through their own darkness for seven centuries.

These works endure not because they are entertaining ,though many of them are, but because they are true in the way that only great art can be true. Not factually true. Spiritually true. Emotionally true. True in the way that makes a reader stop mid-sentence and think: yes. That is exactly what it feels like.

Dr. Glenn’s Heroes from Heaven stands in this tradition. It is a story about a man who has lost his faith and finds it again through sacrifice. It is a story about the nature of evil, not evil as a cartoon, but evil as a system, a structure, a set of choices made by human beings who were themselves once capable of something better. It is a story about the biblical heroes not as distant figures from a Sunday school lesson but as living, breathing presences who have been waiting patiently, faithfully, in disguise, for the moment when the world needs them most.

This is not simply a plot. This is a theology, translating a genuine theology into cinematic narrative without losing either the drama or the depth is one of the most difficult and most important things a writer can attempt.

Why the Written Word Comes First

In contemporary entertainment culture there is a tendency to treat the screenplay as a functional document, a technical blueprint for a production rather than a work of art in its own right. This is a mistake that the greatest filmmakers have always known to avoid. The directors whose work endures , from Ingmar Bergman and Federico Fellini to Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan, and the Coen Brothers, have always understood that everything begins with the word on the page. Characters begin there. Theme begins there. The moral architecture of a story ,the invisible structure that determines whether an audience leaves a film simply entertained or genuinely moved is built in the writing, long before a single camera rolls.

Dr. Glenn began Heroes from Heaven as a novel precisely because the novel is the form that demands the most complete and honest engagement with the interior life of a character. A novel cannot hide behind spectacle. It cannot distract its audience with a beautiful image or a perfectly scored musical moment. It must earn its emotional power through language alone, through the precision and authenticity of its words. Developing the world of Heroes from Heaven first as a novel, Dr. Glenn ensured that the story’s emotional and spiritual foundation was solid before anyone began to think about how it would look on screen.

Co-written with professional screenwriter Geoffrey D. Calhoun, the subsequent screenplay carries that foundation into cinematic form, translating the novel’s interior richness into the visual and dramatic language of film without sacrificing the depth that makes the story worth telling in the first place. This is the creative process at its most disciplined and most ambitious: start with the truth of the story, and then find the most powerful form to carry that truth to the widest possible audience.

Cinema as a Sacred Responsibility

Film is the most powerful storytelling medium humanity has ever created. Nothing else combines the visual, the auditory, the performative, and the narrative into a single sustained experience that an audience receives together, in the dark, with nowhere else to look. At its best cinema does not simply tell a story, it creates a shared experience that its audience carries with them for the rest of their lives. People remember where they were when they first saw The Passion of the Christ. They remember how it felt to watch Schindler’s List for the first time. They remember the conversation they had afterward, walking to the car, unable to speak for a few minutes.

That power is not to be taken lightly. It comes with a responsibility, to use the medium for something worthy of its reach. Not every film needs to carry a spiritual message. However every film, regardless of its subject, has an obligation to be honest. To treat its audience as intelligent adults capable of engaging with complexity. To leave the world better than we found it.

Heroes from Heaven: Battleground Earth takes that responsibility seriously. It is a story about a dystopian future, but its message is not dystopian. It is about the darkness of the Seven Deadly Sins, but its movement is always toward the light. It depicts violence, oppression, and the machinery of evil with unflinching honesty, because sanitizing those things would be a lie, and the audience deserves the truth. It also depicts resurrection, redemption, and the extraordinary power of faith enacted by ordinary people who choose something greater than themselves, because that is also the truth, and it is the truth that matters.

This is the tradition that the greatest films have always inhabited. The Passion of the Christ did not look away from suffering. Ben-Hur did not pretend that empire was anything other than brutal. Chariots of Fire understood that the decision to honor one’s faith in the face of institutional pressure is neither simple nor free. These films endure because they were made by people who understood that honest storytelling and faithful storytelling are not opposites, they are the same thing.

The Seven Continents of Recognition

The world’s film community has already recognized what Heroes from Heaven represents as a work of art and as a piece of writing. With more than 30 international awards and official selections spanning every inhabited continent, from the Best Feature Screenplay at the Greece International Film Festival and Best Drama Script at the World Film Festival in Cannes to three category wins at the All Asian Independent Film Festival in Cambodia and recognition from festivals in Rome, Madrid, London, Buenos Aires, Kigali, Stockholm, Oxford, Milan, and beyond, the global film community has rendered a clear verdict on the quality and significance of this screenplay.

These are not simply awards. They are affirmations, from judges across seven continents, representing dozens of cultures, languages, and cinematic traditions, that this story is worth telling. That the writing behind it is strong enough, honest enough, and important enough to stand alongside the finest screenplays in the world.

That is what happens when a writer takes the tradition of meaningful storytelling seriously. That is what happens when a story is built on something true.

The Invitation

Heroes from Heaven: Battleground Earth is currently in development and actively seeking the production and distribution partners who will help bring this story to the global audience that is already waiting for it. The novel is complete. The screenplay is written. The world’s film festivals have spoken. The tradition of meaningful, purposeful, artistically serious filmmaking that stretches from the great epics of classical antiquity to the finest faith films of the modern era is waiting for its next chapter.

Dr. Scott Glenn has written that chapter.

Now it is time to make the film.

From Award Winner to Judge: Dr. Scott Glenn Joins the Jury of the Greek International Film Festival 2026

When Heroes from Heaven: Battleground Earth earned the Best Feature Screenplay award at the Greece International Film Festival in 2025, it was one of the first major international honors for Dr. Scott Glenn’s faith-based action epic — a recognition that helped launch the screenplay onto a global festival circuit that would eventually span every inhabited continent. Now, Greece has called again — but this time with a different and profoundly meaningful invitation.

Dr. Scott Glenn has been asked to serve as a judge at the Greek International Film Festival in 2026.

It is a milestone that marks a new chapter — not just for Dr. Glenn personally, but for the entire Heroes from Heaven project. When a festival that once recognized your work invites you back to help recognize the work of others, it signals something important: you are no longer simply a voice seeking to be heard. You have become a voice the industry trusts to listen.

What It Means to Be on the Jury

Judging panels at Greek international film festivals are composed of distinguished international and local industry professionals — directors, producers, critics, and executives — whose collective expertise shapes which films and screenwriters receive the recognition that can change the trajectory of a career. Notable figures on recent Greek festival juries have included executives from Sundance, representatives from Film Independent, international Emmy jurors, and members of the prestigious FIPRESCI critics’ federation — one of the most respected bodies in international film criticism.

These panels evaluate films across multiple program sections, including feature films, documentaries, and youth selections, bringing a range of expertise and perspective to every submission they consider. To be invited into this company is to be recognized as a peer by the international film industry — not simply as a participant in the festival circuit, but as someone whose judgment and experience are valued enough to help shape its outcomes.

For Dr. Glenn, whose academic career as an Assistant Professor of Business at Goldey-Beacom College has always been paired with a deep commitment to storytelling, faith, and human connection, the invitation to serve as a juror is a natural extension of values he has brought to both roles. Teaching, after all, is an act of discernment — of identifying potential, honoring craft, and helping others find their path forward. The jury room is not so different.

The Journey That Brought Him Here

Dr. Scott Glenn’s path from novelist to award-winning screenwriter to international jury member is one of the more remarkable stories in contemporary independent faith cinema. It began with a book signing in San Antonio, Texas — where a chance encounter on a film set led to a connection with a Hollywood casting director and a realization that the story he had written in his 2016 novel Heroes from Heaven belonged on the big screen as much as it belonged on the page.

From that beginning, Dr. Glenn co-wrote the screenplay with professional screenwriter Geoffrey D. Calhoun — and the result has since been recognized at more than 30 international festivals and screenwriting competitions spanning every inhabited continent on Earth. The awards have come from Cannes, Rome, Madrid, London, Oxford, Athens, Buenos Aires, Kigali, Phnom Penh, Stockholm, Milan, New York, Dallas, Chicago, and beyond. The screenplay has won outright in categories including Best Feature Screenplay, Best Action Screenplay, Best Thriller Screenplay, Best Original Screenplay, Best Drama Script, Best First Time Screenplay, and Outstanding Achievement in Feature Script. It has been an Official Selection at events ranging from the New York Film Festival to the All African Independent Film Festival in Rwanda.

Each recognition has added to the credibility of the project — and to the credibility of Dr. Glenn as a voice within the international film community. The invitation to serve as a judge at the Greek International Film Festival in 2026 is the clearest expression yet of that earned credibility.

Greece and Heroes from Heaven

The relationship between Heroes from Heaven and Greece is one of the most meaningful threads in the project’s international story. The Greece International Film Festival was one of the first major platforms to recognize the screenplay’s potential, awarding it Best Feature Screenplay at the 8th annual edition in 2025 — a recognition that came early in the festival journey and helped set the tone for everything that followed.

To return to Greece — not as a submitter, but as a judge — is to complete a circle that speaks to the project’s growing stature in the global film community. Greece, with its ancient tradition of storytelling and its deep connection to the themes of heroism, sacrifice, and divine intervention that run through Heroes from Heaven, is a fitting place for Dr. Glenn to take on this new role.

What Comes Next

As Dr. Glenn prepares to serve on the jury of the Greek International Film Festival in 2026, the project he created continues to build momentum toward production. Heroes from Heaven: Battleground Earth remains in development and is actively seeking the production and distribution partners who will bring this story — one that has already moved audiences and juries on every inhabited continent — to the screen.

The screenplay is complete. The novel is written. More than 30 international festivals have already recognized its quality. And now, one of those festivals has invited its author to help recognize the quality of others.

The next chapter of Heroes from Heaven is being written — and the world is paying attention.
