The faith-based action epic screenplay Heroes from Heaven: Battleground Earth, written by Dr. Scott Glenn and Geoffrey D. Calhoun, has won the Award for Best Screenplay at the Five Continents International Film Festival (FICOCC) — another milestone in the project’s growing international journey.

FICOCC is a monthly, online-based international cinematography festival that evaluates global submissions across feature films, short films, music videos, and web series, with categories spanning length, genre, and individual technical achievement — including Best Director, Cinematography, Sound Design, and Screenplay. Winning Best Screenplay among this breadth of international competition is a meaningful affirmation of the writing at the heart of Heroes from Heaven.

FICOCC’s structure is built around recurring monthly entry periods, live streamed announcements, and an audience-inclusive format, where filmmakers can opt into online subscriber screenings to compete for an additional Audience Award alongside standard jury evaluation. This week, Venezuela was struck by two devastating earthquakes — a 7.2 magnitude foreshock followed less than a minute later by a 7.5 magnitude mainshock, among the strongest to hit the country in more than a century. As of this writing, officials report that more than 900 people have been killed and over 3,300 injured, with the coastal state of La Guaira and the capital city of Caracas suffering the worst of the destruction. Rescue teams from around the world continue searching through collapsed buildings for survivors, and the full scope of the loss is still being understood.

Our thoughts, our prayers, and our hearts go out to every family affected — those searching for loved ones, those who have lost everything, and the rescue workers and volunteers digging through the rubble with their bare hands to bring people home.
